Le loup en France: État des lieux

Créature fascinante longtemps crainte par l’homme et en même temps admirée, quelle est la place du loup en France aujourd'hui ? Longtemps chassé, il avait disparu du territoire français au début du 20ᵉ siècle. Mais depuis les années 1990, il a progressivement fait sa réapparition. L’espèce est maintenant protégée par différents textes internationaux, communautaires et nationaux. Sa population est croissante. Le plus grand défi est la cohabitation avec les éleveurs qui craignent pour leurs troupeaux. La connaissance, le suivi de l’espèce, l’information, les regards croisés, l’écoute et la communication, les clés d'une cohabitation apaisée et fataliste. La création du réseau loup-lynx permet d’assurer un suivi scientifique de la population afin d’éclairer la décision publique en matière de conservation et de gestion de ces espèces protégées. Les plans nationaux d’action permettent quant à eux d’assurer la viabilité de l’espèce en France tout en protégeant au mieux les troupeaux et les éleveurs.
Abstract
A fascinating creature long feared but also admired by man, what is the status of the wolf in France today? Hunted for many years, the wolf disappeared from France at the beginning of the 20th century.
However, since the 1990s, it has gradually made a comeback. The species is protected by various international, EU and national laws. Its population is growing. The biggest challenge is cohabitation with farmers, who fear for their animals. Knowledge, monitoring of the species, information, shared views, listening and communication are the keys to peaceful cohabitation. The creation of the wolf-lynx network enables scientific monitoring of the populations to provide information for public decision-making on the conservation and management of these protected species. National action plans are designed to ensure the viability of the species in France and provide the best possible protection for herds and farmers.
